Bridmet are manufacturers of metal components using very the latest technology machines to produce a range of sheet metal fabrications.
At Bridmet I had the opportunity of working in all the different departments of the factory. This has given me a wide base of "hands on"; skills that I can bring to yachting. My role included liaising directly with customers and responding to questions from the shop floor to ensure deadlines were met and products were delivered on time.
During the 1st lockdown I was furloughed so I took advantage of the time to study and bring forward the college work scheduled for the coming year. This enabled me to complete my two year apprenticeship in welding and fabrication and become certified in the following areas:
Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety
Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Metal Inert Gas / Metal Active Gas Welding Process (MIG)
Tungsten Inert Gas Welding Process (TIG)
Producing Sheet Metal Fabrications
Mechanical Engineering Principles
Engineering Inspection and Quality Control
During the Summers of 2017 & 2018 I worked alone on the Weymouth Harbour fuelling pontoon. I was responsible the safe delivery of fuel and collection of payments or invoicing along with assisting boats to moor safely and securely.
In this role I had to interact with a wide range of people.
